SUN CITY WEST METAL CLUB

Club Special Board Meeting – June 11, 2026

Meeting called to order at 8:00a.m. at the club by President Larry Mann. Present: Blake Flickinger, Don Mellum, Sarge Raddatz, Joe Faraone, Marty Rosauer, Lee Schwartz, Wendi Boos. Absent: Jim Filipiak.

Sandblaster Replacement Purchase: Sarge presented the final estimate for a 60” x 48” Skatblast unit with upgraded filter/vacuum system for $7450 including freight. Blake made a motion, seconded by Sarge to purchase this unit for the club. All were in favor including an absentia ‘yes’ vote from Jim Filipiak. The motion carried and the purchase will be presented for an online vote by the membership next week.

Larry stated that Sandblaster operating procedures will be developed to ensure safe, efficient operation of the unit. Monitors will also be trained to identify items that can and cannot be properly processed in the new unit to avoid equipment damage.

By-Law Online Voting: The proposed by-law change involving membership vote for replacement equipment over $2500 will be conducted by the Rec Center in an online vote beginning June 22 – June 25. Wendi shared a draft email with the group. It was agreed that the online membership vote next week for the replacement Sandblaster prior to this by-law vote can be proceeded without any issue.

Display Board Committee: A committee will present an updated display board policy for the Board to review. Wendi, Marty, and others will be involved in this project. The group will develop a fair and equitable way to display metal art on the display boards.

July 1 Hot Dog Luncheon: An informal Hot Dog lunch will be held at the club on Wednesday, July 1 at 11:30am. The club will provide grilled hot dogs, buns, chili, chips, and bottled water. Members can bring a side dish, or dessert. Guests are welcome to attend.

Recertification on Machines: Sarge raised the question about having members recertified on milling, lathe, and other equipment at the club similar to the way the plasma recertification is done after 60 days. Since there is not a way to track member usage of these machines like the plasma units, it is difficult to track the timeframe for a recertification. It was agreed that members should be reminded to get a refresher on these machines after not using them for an extended period to ensure safe, effective use of these machines.

Motion to adjourn made by Blake, seconded by Don. The meeting adjourned at 8:25am.
