Sun City West Metal Club Newsletter
January 2008
Have you ever wondered where those mailboxes with the deep receptacle come from?
They are made by the Sun City West Metal Club and sold through the Village Store. Club
members also make a preponderance of the metal art that you see throughout your
neighborhood. You are
welcome to stop by the club for a cup of coffee and a tour an
time from about 8:00 through 4:00 during the week. Just tell one of our
monitors that you′d like to be shown around and a club member will accompany you
as you see all that we do and all the parts of our shop where we do it.
You are apt to find men and women making anything from steam locomotives to air craft, from replica space craft to hunting and kitchen knives.
You might be lucky and be in the club when you can see a working scale model of a Pratt and Whitney
radial aircraft engine or a quarter-scale Offenhauser racer. You′ll find club
members welding, making metal art, learning painting, sheet metal work, knife
making, milling machine skills, or the rudiments of lathe work. The entire
spectrum of metal crafts and skills are pursued and taught at our club, and we
have earned the reputation of being one of the most relaxed and friendly
places in the area.
We also are happy to take on projects and repairs for those who need such help and who are willing to make a small contribution to the club in return for the work. We sharpen knives, hedge shears, axes, scissors, and chisels and we make shut-off wrenches for the water valve into your home as well as a handy ′lifter′ that makes dealing with our street level garbage cans a breeze.
The Metal Club welcomes all women and men who hold a valid Rec. Center Card, no matter their skill and knowledge about metal work. Individual training and classes are available to members wishing to learn to do virtually anything we do, or can do, in the shop.
The club is located at 13849 W. Camino del Sol in the large
rose/beige building just north of the PORA Visitors Center.
Come and visit us.
Our hours are from 8:00 through 4:00
Monday through Friday.
Our phone number is 623-584-0150.
