Sun City West Metal Club Newsletter

August 2009

There is a special need for Monitors during the summer months. Unless 2 Monitors are on duty during any given four hour shift, the Club must be closed. If you are here during the summer months, stop by the Monitors desk to sign up. Training for Monitors is available.

Many changes have taken place during the past few months at the Metal Club. The Board of directors and a large group of other volunteers are doing an excellent job of updating our facility and equipment. Some recent changes include:
1) Remodeling the Men's restroom by installing a new handicapped high toilet, installing ceramic tile on the floor and painting the walls.
2) Moving the welding room to a more satisfactory location at the rear of the building by one of the large roller doors.
3) Purchasing a new MIG welding machine. Classes to operate the new MIG are being scheduled. The new machine should be easier for novice welders to produce good welds.
4) Painting large areas of the club including the wooden lockers, the craft fair display boards, the walls in the new welding area, and numerous other areas of the Club.

The Board of Directors of the Metal Club has voted to purchase a soft drinks machine. A variety of pop will be available at 25 cents per can. Free coffee will continue to be available at the Club.

Over 300 pieces of metal art created by members of the Club are on display year around at the Metal Club and the SCW Village Store. Metal art can be purchased at the Village Store in the R. H. Johnson Rec. Center or at the Metal Club. Vacation/security mail boxes can be purchased at the Village Store with installation available at the Metal Club.

Visitors are always welcome at the Sun City West Metal Club during normal operating hours from 8 AM to 4 PM weekdays. Tours are available for those wishing to see the excellent facilities and equipment. Fresh coffee and pop is provided for visitors by our friendly members.

The next general membership meeting of the S.C.W. Metal Club will be Thursday, September 17, 2009 at 9:00 AM. <- (Note: This is a one month change of the time). There will be no meeting in August.

If you are interested in joining the Metal Club, stop by for a visit and tour of the facility. The Metal Club also offers social opportunities and events which include spouses or significant others. The annual dues of $20 provide access to hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of first rate equipment unavailable elsewhere.

Repairing metal furniture repair, welding, garbage container tops, custom sheet metal, milling and lathe work, knife/ax sharpening, custom metal art, etc. are services offered to the community by members of the Metal Club. Visit the Metal Club and let us know of your needs.
